LED packages and modules, main products of Samsung LEDs, are subject to regional certifications: UL for the United States and CE, VDE and ENEC for Europe. To receive these certifications, Samsung products go through strict safety tests to ensure they comply with the standards at each stage from design to production, before gaining the final approval. Factory inspection by certification institutes ensures maintenance of products quality, all of which makes for safer products.
Samsung has also established laboratories based on ISO/IEC 17025: General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, to guarantee world class quality assurance. For its labs, Samsung acquired a KOLAS International Accredited Testing Laboratory status, which allows it to independently run IES LM-80 tests that measure lumen maintenance of LED light sources. "KOLAS" stands for Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme, a governmental accreditation organization in South Korea.
