Samsung Introduces a New Color Experience

Samsung LED's color rendering technique adds greater value to interior lighting, TV back-lighting, and automotive lighting. Through our exclusive spectrum engineering and a new class of phosphors, we have tuned the color spectrum to realize uniquely natural, rich color, using CRI and TM-30 for lighting and DCI for TV.

Samsung LEDs has been constantly evolving to offer outstanding quality and practical, human-centric benefits for the end-consumer.

High CRI with High Brightness

Color quality is gaining importance in the market with the enforcement of Title 20 and 24, imposed by the California Energy Commission (CEC), a leading organization in energy standards and certification in the United States. The LED lighting market is trending toward Ra 90+ and R 95+, which are up-and-coming mainstream products.

Samsung has already introduced Ra 90+ and 95+ line-up LED products, MP and COB, applying high-quality light source technologies such as HCRI and TM-30. A spectrum of Ra 90 or higher is known to result in lower efficiency, but Samsung LEDs have achieved a uniquely high luminance and color quality with minimal IR loss by improving the spectrum matching rate to LER peak 555 nm.

Special Color Lighting

Using the most popular color temperature, the Special Color COB has realized an ideal white that brings out red, green and blue for each of three commercial applications – fashion, meat, and vegetables. The package delivers Gamut Index (Rg) of over 110 for lighting with outstanding color and whiteness.

Special Color Lighting is a premium LED package for commercial lighting with a human-centric feature: a safer blue chip instead of near UV chip of 400 to 410nm. Built on the findings of Samsung's extensive preference surveys conducted across many demographic groups worldwide, Special Color Lighting accentuates distinct features of illuminated products to catch the eyes of consumers.

Wide Color Gamut Solution for UHD TV HDR

According to a survey on user satisfaction with TV resolution and color reproduction, users going from FHD to UHD TV responded with similar levels of satisfaction with resolution, but much higher levels with color reproduction. High color gamut and HDR improvement technologies are also important as they contribute to higher performance in the functional aspect of HDRs.

Samsung LED has produced LED products for TV (FL70, SFL70, FL32) with DCI 90, 95 or higher, which is equivalent to quantum dot level and applicable to TV BLU and support high currents of HDR (high dynamic range), thanks to its design engineering capabilities and a new narrow-band phosphor solution with greater reliability. Samsung is also working on BT 2020 technology, the new color space for ultra-high definition TV.

Reliable Ceramic Phosphor for Automotive Applications

Automotive LEDs need to be high power and highly heat-resistant. The thermal conductivity of widely-used phosphors and silicone mixture, however, is 0.1 to 0.2 W/m∙K, which limits their usability in this area.

Samsung LEDs uses high conductive ceramic phosphor, with a heat conductivity up to 2 W/m∙K, for its two main models: 1W AH351A narrow angle, and AH351B wide angle. Use of this phosphor can reduce surface temperature by at least 20 degrees, improving reliability and efficiency. For future products, Samsung plans to use ultra-high thermal conductive material with a heat conductivity of 10 W/m∙K and red ceramic phosphor.
